What’s Happening?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Long time no post! It’s not that nothing has been happening…it’s mostly that I have been feeling pretty sick with this pregnancy, and a nap for me in the afternoons while Evan is sleeping seems much more productive (or irresistible at least)!

I have several things to update you on, so here it goes:

1) Thank you to those of you who prayed for Matt and Wendy (see previous post). Wendy passed away, and even though she is dearly missed here on earth, it is comforting to know she’s with her Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ. It has been such a blessing to see fellow believers come together to serve, love, support, and pray for Matt and his family.

2) My first official doctor’s appointment is July 4th. We should find out when our first sonogram will be. We hope to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl at that first sonogram. We’ll let you know!

3) We’re moving! After nearly 11 months in Canada, we have finally found a place of our own. We will be renting for the next year at least, but this is certainly an answer to prayer as we hope to further settle into life in Canada! Thank you for all of your prayers concerning housing for us. God has answered according to His perfect timing. We’ll be in touch soon with our new contact information.

4) Summer is here! It was a long winter and a fairly cool and wet spring, so it’s nice to see some blue skies and warmer temperatures. We love these long summer days! Evan begs to go outside throughout the day by knocking on the door and saying “ah-ta-ta, ah-ta-ta!” Look how happy he is when we get outside:

He just loves to run around, and he even passes up playing at the park sometimes to run around the block instead. He is quite the source of entertainment around here. Some of his favorite words are: hi!, bye-bye, tractor, happy, please, no-no (that one is not our favorite), money(not sure why - he hasn’t seen much of it!), honey, owie, bubble, baby and Addie (Jim and Leslie’s precious little girl).

5) We’re already working on our calendar for 2008. We will be letting you know about some exciting opportunities we have with GoodSeed in the next year or so.

6) Let us know how YOU are doing. We would love to hear from you!

Please Pray

There is a family that we know from Lubbock that needs your prayers. Their names are Matt and Wendy Carr, and they have 2 precious little ones. We do not know them well, but our hearts go out to them just the same. You can read about their story here.

Please pray for Wendy and her family. They are faithful believers and would appreciate your prayers on their behalf.

Have you…

New York, New York!

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

As promised, here I am! Did you miss me?

I thought I’d update on our trip to New York since it is most recent. Also, Joe could do a much better job of telling you about Scotland and the other parts of the UK where they taught and visited. Just believe me when I say the photos he took are great. I just don’t know where most of them are! I’ll see if maybe he will do a guest post here on our blog. Haha!

As for New York, we arrived right in the middle of the city after a beautiful train ride from Pennsylvania. We took a taxi to our hotel, and the rest is a blur from there. The end.

Just kidding. We spent the next few days walking, walking some more, and walking some more. We (I mean Joe) figured out the subway system very quickly, and we made use of it right away! The first evening, we went to see my sister and brother-in-law’s apartment and neighborhood. They were great hosts throughout the weekend and took us to some of their favorite places to eat and showed us around the city. Here are some of the things we did:

We took a fun (and FREE!) ferry that goes right by the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

That’s not a great picture, but you can see Manhattan in the background. We didn’t have time to stop at The Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island, but we did wave hello…once on the way, and another on the way back!

We also came across this fun carousel (I couldn’t tell if Evan or Joe enjoyed it more).

We spent the better part of one day walking through Central Park, and just had to let Evan play at the playground and in the fountain:

We, being the ever-prepared parents that we are, didn’t bring Evan’s swimsuit that day. He didn’t seem to mind, though!

Another day, Julie showed us Rockefeller Plaza and the surrounding area.

With all of that walking, we took a lot of breaks:

We also went in Grand Central Station, which really is grand! In honor of Memorial Day, there were a lot of flags all over the city, including this huge one inside the station:

So that’s our trip in a nutshell. I’ll post more pictures on our Flickr in the next week. Thanks Chris and Julie for rearranging your schedules for us and for introducing us to The Big Apple! It was nice to meet you, New York. We hope to see you again someday.

Check back soon for more updates and photos.

June what?!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been a very bad blogger. Sorry, folks. We (and by WE, I mean I) will return soon with a real post - photos and all.

I can hardly believe it’s already June! What happened to May? Well, let me just say it was a very busy month for us. Joe was only here for 9 days in May. The rest of the time, he was traveling in the UK, Pennsylvania, and New York. Evan and I accompanied him and some other GoodSeed staff to Pennsylvania, and then we took a family vacation (”holiday” for you Canadian readers) to New York to visit my sister and brother-in-law. We had a blast, but we are glad to be back for our first full Canadian summer. Needless to say, I have a lot to catch you all up on!

For now, Evan’s awake so I need to get him up. He’s in his bed saying “eye” and “meeeeoooowwwww” as he pokes his stuffie cat’s eyes. I think I should go rescue the cat…good thing he’s not real.

I’ll be back here tomorrow - you should too!
