How ’bout that?
Sunday, July 29th, 2007We have been so busy this month! I can hardly believe it’s almost August! Since I’m so far behind on the happenings around here, I’ll have to do a list to give you the run-down on what we’ve been up to. So strap your seat belts on! Here we go:
1) As you know, we’ve moved into a duplex! We are so thankful to the Lord for providing a place for us to call our own. Our things had been in storage for the last 11 months, so it was a little like Christmas in July when we opened box after box! We are still getting settled, so I’ll post a few pics once we get a little more organized.
2) This may come as complete shock to some of you, but (Julie, Jennifer, Karen, Robin, Kim…are you sitting down?) we have cell phones. Gasp! I know. Welcome to the year 2007! Aside from a short stint before we moved to Canada, we have never had cell phones. Although we often realized how convenient having a cell phone would be, we figured our money could be put to better use. However, in moving into our own place, we opted to have cell phones only for about as much as our home phone would cost. So, there you have it. Maybe we’ll be really cutting edge and get a DVD player. VHS is getting really hard to find these days! Just kidding. We actually DO have a DVD player, but you do have to jiggle the cords when the screen blacks out. Here’s Joe figuring out our new fangled contraption:
3) Now that Evan has his own room, he finally has a big boy bed! He loves it so much that he asks to get in it at nap time. For the first few nights, we put him on the mattress on the floor. He did great about staying in bed and not getting up. Then, Joe and his dad got Evan’s bed put together. And he fell off of it that first night. There are rails, but he managed to scoot right out of the small opening at the end. I had just gone in to check on him before we went to bed and noticed that he was close to the opening. I went out to get some pillows to put on the floor, and THUD, THUD! I was too late! Poor thing. He came out mostly unscathed except for a busted lower lip. Needless to say, we turned the bed around so that the rail goes all of the way across. He moves around so much in his sleep, so I hope he’ll learn to stay at one end of the bed!
4) Joe’s family was here for almost 2 weeks. We had a blast, and tried to show them around as much as possible. We managed to make it to the Calgary Zoo and Lake Louise (in Banff National Park). We also did a little dining and shopping in Red Deer (the closest big city). Otherwise, they helped us with a few things around here, and we did a bit of relaxing, too. Thanks for coming to visit us! We took lots of photos, so I’ll do a separate post for their visit soon.
5) Some of you asked a while back if I got a haircut. Indeed, I got ALL of them cut! When we went to NY back in May, I went to a salon that participates in Locks of Love. They chopped off 11 inches (for FREE) so that I could donate it. I had been wanting to do it for a long time, and finally felt that it was time. They actually didn’t even ask how I wanted my hair cut/styled…they just started cutting away, and they were done before I even had time to think about parting with my hair. I hope to grow out my hair again to do the same thing, but I think I’ll go to my own salon next time!
6) As we get settled, I hope to post a little more frequently so that I don’t get so behind. I still have lots of wisdom to impart and insight to shed into your lives, so check back! I’ll even take requests. Is there something you want me to write about? Let me know. I’ll see what I can do.
