How ’bout them apples?

Oct 10

When we lived in Texas, we had an annual tradition of picking apples, gathering pumpkins, buying some apple bread, and gettin’ some grub at a nearby apple orchard. While we don’t have row upon row of apple trees here, we do have an apple tree in our backyard. And since the harvest is here, we spent a couple of evenings pickin’ apples. Apparently the birds did, too, as we picked a plethora of partially pecked papples. I mean apples. Maybe there were worms in them (ew). Or maybe they just like apples. Either way, we managed to get around 7 or 8 boxes of apples. From ONE tree. Anyone want some apples?

*There are a few other photos on our Flickr.

Last year, I made several batches of apple bread, various apple muffins, apple dumplings, and a batch of apple butter. This year, I’ll make some of those things plus applesauce. Does anyone have other good apple recipes?

  1. Thanks for the apples. I’m excited! I think I will try some applesauce as well. That’s one snack that is very high on Addie’s “I like it!” list. We also really like Bavarian Apple Tortes – anything with a cheesecake filling and sugar cookie-like crust wins my heart :)

  2. great pics suzanne!!!

I really miss going to the apple orchard — Idalou, Texas!

I wish I had some of the apples from your tree. I would make apple pie, apple cake, and your delicious apple dumplings!

  4. I remember when Evan and I found the “baby apples” on your tree last summer! I’m glad to see you have such a wonderful harvest! Yum, your muffins look wonderful. I am looking forward to making them. Well, actually I am looking forward to eating them.
And the apples remind me….you 4 are the apples of my eye…and we are the apples of God’s eye…because of His mercy, grace, and love.
